Refinishing Your Hardwood Floors

Most of the people actually adore the hardwood floors in their homes. Refinishing your hardwood floors can sometimes be a tedious task can also consume lot of time and money. However, when you consider doing hardwood refinishing you will be surprised that it is a task that does not include paying professional high amounts to do the task for you. It would also be worth to understand that you need to have time to spend on your refinishing project in order to make sure that you end up with effective results.

Hardwood Floor Refinishing

If you have planned for hardwood floor refinishing all by yourself then it would surely be a time consuming task. However, it would surely need you to move out of the house until you complete the task. In addition to this the costing for refinishing do not include any strong fumes that can be dangerous for anyone with a respiratory problem. However, the main thing that you should remember is that you should not walk on the floor until the finish has dried out. This is because the fresh refinished floor would have you footprints all over.

Sanding the Floor

You can first move all the furniture and rugs from the room. Then check the floor for any carpet staples or nails as this would rip your sandpaper. You can get a floor sander from the local equipment shop. You can prefer the traditional drum sanders which are just excellent for the task although being a bit heavy. However you can also opt for orbital senders that are much easier to control. You can then get a good supply of sandpapers and then clip the grit sandpaper in the sander. You can then run the sander over the hardwood in the direction of the grains of wood. You just have to pull or push the sander in strokes or straight but do not go cross the grain. You should also remember to keep the machine in motion when turned on. If the floor is gouged then go over it again with your sander as you make long strokes. You can then remove the grit sandpaper and replace it with lighter grain sandpaper. The lines and sand scratches in the floor would be cleared off using this lighter grain.
